Rotary International

Rotary International is a global network of service volunteers. It is the world's largest service organisation of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world, with some 1,210,905 members operating in 168 countries world-wide. It was founded by Chicago lawyer, Paul P Harris on February 23, 1905. The members chose the name Rotary because they rotated club meetings to each member's office each week. By 1921 the organisation was represented on every continent, and the name Rotary International was adopted in 1922. Their motto is: Service Above-Self. From 1905 until the 1980s, women were not allowed membership in Rotary clubs, although Rotarian spouses, including Paul Harris's wife, were often members of the similar "Inner Wheel" club. In 1989, women were allowed to join Rotary International. An example for the Rotary service worldwide is the partnership of Rotarians when UN was founded and the most notable current global project is contributing to the global eradication of polio helping to the people in the desert and semi-desert places for finding drinking water

Rotary Bulgaria

The oldest Rotary club in Bulgaria, Rotary Sofia, was founded in 1933г. Before 9.ІХ.1944 Rotary clubs were founded in other towns like Varna (1935), Russe, Bourgas, Gorna Oriahovitsa, Veliko Tarnovo and Plovdiv. After the Communist revolution in 1944, all Rotary clubs were closed and destroyed as dangerous, and all members were called “Enemies of the people”. After the democracy changes in 1990 one after another the Rotary clubs were restored and were founded new ones. By June 2007, there are 75 active Rotary clubs and 11 preliminary Rotary clubs. Because of the merit and the of good work of the Bulgarian Rotary clubs, Rotary International give rights to Bulgaria to became a self-depend district 2482.

Inner Wheel

International Inner Wheel is most probably the largest women's Voluntary Service Organisation in the world. We hold Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) status with the United Nations and have representatives in its three centres of Geneva, New York and Vienna and are therefore able to play an important role in today’s world. Since its inception in 1924 Inner Wheel continues to grow as new Clubs form in many countries. Currently we have more than 100,000 members in over 101 countries and geographical locations and members enjoy working together making new friends and having fun whilst experiencing the sense of ‘belonging’ that Club life brings. Visiting members wherever we are in the world is a great joy and the start of lifelong friendships. However that is by no means the sole objective of Inner Wheel as Service to those less fortunate than ourselves - the vulnerable, young people and the elderly - both at home and in the developing countries is equally important. It is given in many ways from general long term support to providing goods, funds and practical ‘hands on’ help in emergencies and disaster areas and our members are among the first to respond. They are the sister organisation of Rotary International, and work closely with its members.

Rotaract Club Varna

Rotaract is a program of Rotary International. Rotaract Clubs work under the guidance of their local Rotary Club, and take their name from a combination of the words Rotary and action. Rotaract Club Varna was chartered at 11 November 1996г. It is one of the first founded in Bulgaria and has 30 members.

IYFR

The International Yachting Fellowship of Rotarians, formed in 1947 in Great Britain, is recognized as the oldest of the Rotary Fellowships. It was to become the first of many recreational fellowships formed with the World Fellowship Activities of Rotary International. An IYFR trophy which is presented to each incoming International Commodore, "The John Barrett Bell" was made by one of the founding fellowship members, Denis Dalby, and presented to the fellowship in honor of our Founder, Commodore John G. Barrett. Today, we are not only the oldest but probably the largest of the Rotary fellowships, according to Rotary International. Over time, we have lost some of our earlier established local Rotary yachting fleets, however we constantly continue to charter new ones. There are about 100 active Rotary yachting fleets in 19 countries throughout the world: Australia, Belgium, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and the USA. The IYFR have a world wide membership of nearly 3000 members. Although this includes about 250 'members at large' who are not affiliated with any of the fleets we encourage members to join through the closest available fleet. Rotary Mariners combine an acceptance of the principles of Rotary with a love of boats and the sea, rivers and inland waters, and use the shared interest of yachting and seamanship as an opportunity to encourage and foster the objectives of Rotary. Mariner objectives are:
To advance international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideals of service.
To promote Rotary fellowship through cruising, yachting, racing, sailing, kayaking and other activities involving boats and boating.
To promote high standards of seamanship and abide by recognized yachting customs and etiquette on the water.
To support Rotary service projects and opportunities, on and off the water.
There are about 2 active Rotary yachting fleets in Bulgaria. They were chartered at the same time in 2005. All Rotarians can join IYFR. The only requirement for joining is an active interest in boating (ownership of a boat is not required). Local fleets are located worldwide; if there is not a local fleet in your area you can join as an Independent Member.
